There’s just something cool about those brutish, monstrous races wielding magic. It’s just not right, which makes it very disturbing… with a dash of awesome…

Want to be the best DM?

A few days back I started a thread over at EN World about wanting to be the best DM (that any of my players have ever played with). I really enjoy DM-ing and if I had to choose between DM-ing and playing, I would easily choose DM-ing. I love playing, but DM-ing is something else entirely. Anyway, check out the thread and see what others are saying… do you want to be the best DM?

Duel with a Dragon

Very LoTR style here, wizard holding back a large beast (a dragon in this case) from crossing a subterranean bridge. It IS awesome though. It definitely gets the juices flowing for some Underdark stuff that has been creeping into my head. One of the things I really like about this piece is the other creature at the bottom. It seems as though he’s sneaking his way around the wizard’s ward… good stuff!

The Golem

Here’s a piece for a potential Warforged PC portrait, or even an NPC for that matter. I dig that the rope from the head and the general anatomy of the golem makes me think it’s a female, which is interesting to consider… all Warforged I have seen are obviously built from the form of a man

The Website Shuffle

Well, here I am, another night into the changes here at Last Lands. I spent most of the weekend merging dndfile.com and dndcraft.com into this site, and there is still more to do. Fortunately I think I’m getting close to being done.

I do have some gaming to look forward to though. Tomorrow I play in a campaign called “Shards of Chaos” which will be our 17th game. This game will see my first day behind the wheel of my new character, a Githzerai Battlemind. My last one (a Goblin Assassin) was killed 2 sessions back. The next game, happening Wednesday is for a campaign called “The Leytower Saga” (what will be the 18th game of that campaign) where I am also playing a new character, this one a Revenant Fighter. I didn’t kill the previous one, we simply finished a “Chapter” and the option to change characters came up. My previous character, a Goliath Warden was simply not cutting it for my style.

Anyway, that’s enough slacking for now – I need to get back to work here.

DnDCraft.com, now “Inspiring”

Hey everyone, Welcome to Last Lands!

This is the first post for the “Inspiring” section from the new home of DnDCraft.com. Here at Last Lands, all content formally at DnDCraft.com can now be found here under the category “Inspiring” and it is where all future posts will be located. If you were following the DnDCraft.com feed before, you can simply change your feed URL to the following and you will be all set…

Unfortunately, March has (so far) been a slow month as far as Inspirational posts are concerned. Between the move and other things, you have been stuck reading about my posts on RPG.net about “What is currently inspiring you?”. Fortunately, we are all done with those. Starting tonight (following this post), I’ll be back to sharing some good stuff once again.

One more note – I had mentioned that March would be a Sci-Fi month as far as the feature goes, but we’ll hold off on that till next month perhaps when things have settled down here a bit!

What is currently inspiring you? (#19)

I recently asked forum members this question at the EN World and RPG.net forums. Here is one response!

My wife was the inspiration for the “horrors” in the horror campaign I’m running.
Well she gave me the idea. I was looking at and not happy with running a traditional zombie apocalypse game but she mentioned something in a book she had recently read that I combined with Nightbane character creation and it works well.
When playing I associate a song to all of my characters and play it several times right before gaming. My namesake’s song is Sentinel by Judas Priest. I mostly use metal song since I’m slightly partial to it but have also used songs from REO Speedwagon (Lightning), Rush (Closer to the Heart) and even Paul Revere & the Raiders (Indian Reservation).

Dark Water Game #9

Just as the players prepared for combat, a familiar voice cried out from behind them, “Stop!”.

It was Goris!

IT had been about 10 days since he last saw the group, sending them off with a tale of his death. Judging from the looks on the faces there at the ruins however, no one was surprised to see him – but Goris assured them their message had indeed helped, especially in the last few days.

After catching up for a little while, Goris noted the absence of Eddie. When the group told him he was left with the ship a few days ago, his demeanor fell grim. He told them that he had just come from the ‘elven tower’ to the North, where he had met with Merrik. Merrik had with him a child his men had kidnapped… a child that matched Eddie’s description.

They also learned (when Goris slipped) that Goris was the brother of Merrik, and also that Merrik was a prince of the Gadarian Empire (which made Goris one as well). Merrik was here to give Goris more work (though what that work is was not clear).

The group decided to head up to the tower… they did not want to head back to the ship to check on Eddie, only to miss Merrik leaving in his from the tower (they would later discover Merrik’s ship was the one that chased them out of Havenshore).

To get to the tower they would have to climb a steep and narrow path that wound it’s way up. During this trip, Merrik’s advisor (a Devil) began to kick undead subdwellers from the tower down onto them. To make matters worse, the subdwellers had an explosive stick shoved into their bodies. If the collision with the body didn’t kill you, the hope was the explosion that followed shortly thereafter would. This made for an interesting climb.

When they made it to the base of the tower, one of Merrik’s 6 lieutenants stepped out to face them. After a hard fought battle, the players came out on top and entered the tower. Working their way up, they made it to the top only to discover the ship had left during their ascent of the tower, but Merrik’s advisor awaited them. After a challenging fight with him, he stopped and pleaded with them to release him… in return he offered information, and perhaps aid when they next met… after all, he said, their paths were certainly meant to cross again with Merriks.

They learned Eddie was not there at the tower and that the child (here, but dead) was gathered by Merrik with some other people said to have some kind of powers. He intended on experimenting with them in some way. If the mutilated boy was any indication of the outcome of the experiments, then the others had no chance.

The players gathered up all the treasure Merrik had to leave behind in his hasty retreat and headed back to their ship where two days later they found Eddie, still working away on repairs.
